The Beaches of Broome

THE BEACHES OF BROOME

SURROUNDED BY COAST ON THREE SIDES, BROOME IS A BEACH LOVER’S PARADISE.

Broome is ideally positioned to offer something for every beach-lover with a variety of gorgeous bays and inlets moments away in most directions. All of Broome’s beaches are within a ten minute drive from the town centre and each have their own distinct identity.

CABLE BEACH

One of Australia’s most famous (and some would say most beautiful) beaches, Cable Beach, is just a short drive from town. This stunning 22km stretch of pristine white sand was named after the telegraph cable laid between Broome and Java in 1889. At one end of the beach lies this cable that connected Australia to the rest of the world for the very first time, at the other you’ll find sets of dinosaur foot prints that are over 130 million years old. It serves as a metaphor for Broome itself – a place of striking contrasts.

This is perhaps most evident every evening at sunset, when mystified tourists are greeted with the sight of the famous Cable Beach camel train snaking its way across the cooling sands – a picture-perfect slice of Broome.

ROEBUCK BAY

Whilst Cable Beach lies on the Western side of town, Roebuck Bay graces the Eastern shores offering plenty of diversity – including the curious mismatch of boab and palm trees growing on the red sands of Town Beach and world class bird-watching opportunities of global significance across the bay.

REDDELL BEACH

Further south you’ll find Reddell Beach, a favourite for locals looking for some quite time. Set against striking red Pindan cliffs this sandy bay is home to some especially remarkable sights should you be in town during turtle nesting season from October to February.

ECO BEACH

While shooting in Broome, the team set out to our final secret location which was only accessible via 4WD along the beachfront from Eco Beach. One of the world’s most remarkable destinations, Eco Beach is a unique eco resort set in a pristine landscape south of Broome. Eco Beach Resort embraces its wild and unique natural surrounds and offers a laid-back Australian glamping experience to match the locale – with an over one-kilometre stretch of eco tents connected by elevated, wooden boardwalks.
